Funeral Services
A Presbyterian funeral is called a “Service of Witness to the
Resurrection,” which emphasizes our focus at the time of death on the
everlasting promises of God in Jesus Christ. Normally, such services
are held in the sanctuary, with a committal service afterwards.
However, some families choose to hold only a graveside service or a
memorial service in another setting appropriate for the family.
Our church seeks to support families and members when death occurs and
beyond that time. With prayers and expressions of love, our calling as
the body of Christ is to grieve together, but we do
“not grieve as
others who have no hope” (I Thessalonians 4:13).
First Presbyterian Church encourages its members to indicate their
funeral wishes in advance. You may request a funeral form from the
church office or download and print a copy from our
Forms Page. The completed form will be
placed on file and remain confidential. You may update this information
at any time.
